About Selma
The compelling force of my artistic journey is my quest for meaning and understanding in both my inner life and the world outside.
To express the delight I feel in simple subjects, I often design and compose my paintings with a tinge of whimsy. I frequently contrast opaque and transparent watermedia, each having unique qualities that can enhance the communication of an idea. The painting process is for me an intellectually and emotionally creative effort that translates personal feelings, observations, curiosity and imagination into visions that can be shared.
Creating art has become a dynamic, enriching, poetic, joyful way to pursue adventure and live a life.
My paintings have been selected and won awards in juried exhibitions nationwide, and are included in the permanent collections of the Arkansas Arts Center Foundation and the Historic Arkansas Museum as well as in private and corporate collections.
I am a signature member and award winner in the American Watercolor Society, New York, in the National Watercolor Society, California, and in Mid-Southern Watercolorists based in Arkansas. Over the years my work has been juried into exhibitions of the Butler Institute of Art, the Southern Watercolor Society, Southwestern Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain National Watercolor Society, and the San Diego International Watercolor Society.
