About Stuart
Stuart joined Local Colour in the fall of 2009. A native of Little Rock, Stuart is a supporter of the Arkansas Fine Art Center and the art scene in and around Arkansas. His home is filled with many local artists paintings as well as some significant artists nationally known. He has a strong sense of community and knows the value of art in the community.
He considers himself a self-taught artist although he has studied extensively with Guido Frick, of Switzerland for several years. Other artists Stuart feels have influenced his work include:
David Bates, Frank Cavino, Albert Handell, Susan Hurst, Endia Gomez, Kevin Kresse, and Stephen Cefalo.
In the gallery, Stuart is known for his large works on canvas or milk carton board paintings. Sometimes these paintings are original in concept and sometimes they are studies of old masters. Always they are painted boldly without fear of subject matter. He is not afraid to experiment with different mediums, surfaces and styles although he consistently returns to oil paint as his medium of choice.
Stuart has been a licensed real estate broker in Arkansas for 30 years. He is a member of the Starbuck’s weekday coffee club in the Heights, the Homebuilders Association of Greater Little Rock, Searcy Board of Realtors, and the CAREN Ham Radio Club. He has 3 children in college.
